Shiny dove to twinkle above

TWINKLE - for the 2021 Holiday Photography Challenge (See sidebar for full list.).

This sparkly Christmas tree ornament arrived as a gift package tie-on five or six Decembers ago. It’s become a favorite, in part because it reminds me fondly of the gift giver. I also love the way this shiny dove sparkles, as it reflects the lights on my Christmas tree.

It’s peaceful and sweet and twinkly.

Do You Hear What I Hear? Merry Christmas Carol Countdown

Music lovers lost a bright star with the tragic and sudden passing of Whitney Houston, just before Valentine’s Day of 2012.

In tribute, here’s the late daunting diva’s cover of a perennial Christmas classic.

“Do You Hear What I Hear” was penned in 1962, with lyrics by Noel Regney and music by Gloria Shayne.

Fly the flag on 9-11-11

Fly the flag on 9-11-11

Sunday, September 11, 2011, will mark the 10th anniversary of the tragic terrorist attack, in which crashing planes destroyed the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center and marred the U.S. Pentagon.

Many were killed, and all were impacted by these events.

Emails and social networking posts are whirling, urging Americans to display Old Glory proudly on this date.

Americans: Even if you don’t raise the flag daily, please show your patriotic colors on September 11th to show devotion and honor to our country, to remember those we lost on this sad date a decade ago and as a tribute to the many heroes who responded on that date.

Hoist the colors!

Hang a flag on your porch. Stick the Stars and Stripes on your vehicle. Wear a flag-imprinted tie or tee on September 11th.

Feel free to Tweet, “like,” and forward this http link to alert other Americans to this display of national pride and honor.

May we never forget.

Schedules Seem Scary Sometimes

Schedules Seem Scary Sometime.
(posted for the A to Z Challenge)

S is for Scary Schedules.

Returning from an extended weekend trip, covering a major Midwestern equestrian exposition, I unpacked my stuffed suitcase and began sorting through paperwork. I started several loads of laundry and restocked the pantry cupboards.

We made our trek to the stables to stow our saddles and supplies.

Then it happened.

A single phone call transformed my smug satisfaction into sheepishness, as a medical professional revealed that I had missed an early morning appointment. How did that happen? How did I overlook something so important?

Blame overbooking.

Have you ever scheduled too many commitments in a single day? Have you ever skipped a meeting or appointment?

Color me embarrassed.

Sometimes hurrying only leads to scurrying. Perhaps it is easiest to forget when we try to remember too much.

That’s why I like to make to-do lists. Now, where did I put that silly list?

Seriously! Do you ever feel as if your cart may be a bit overloaded, even if all of the contents are abundantly positive?

How easy is it to become a slave to the schedule?

Practically at Home Salutes Blog for Peace

(Posted in response to BlogBlast For Peace: A Revolution of Words ~ June 4, 2008)

Today, the Lord’s own words (which He spoke to His twelve apostles) seem fitting:

“Peace I leave with you;
My peace I give you.
I do not give to you as the world gives.
Do not let your hearts be troubled,
and do not be afraid.”
(John 14:27, NIV)

“Dona Nobis Pacem” is Latin for “Grant Us Peace.”

May this be our prayer on June 4th and always.
