A-Z Garden Tips: Easy Equivalents

I love simple shortcuts, even for gardening. Here’s a super-easy measurement tip for planting. An old farmer taught me this a long time ago.

Often, flowers and vegetables and tree seedlings and shrubs, and seeds have to be planted at certain distances from one another? For example, a row of gladiolus bulbs or lettuce heads needs to be evenly spaced.

Skip the ruler.

Don’t worry about eyeballing it. Just mark the basic distances (6”, 12”, 18” and 24” on the garden hoe, spade, or long-handled trowel that you plan to use for planting. Some garden tools are already marked by their manufacturers. Maybe they all should be.

Super shortcut.
