My SW Daybook - May 2016 edition

OK, I’m game to try something new. I stumbled on to The Simple Woman’s Daybook, and I found it intriguing. I thought it might be a fun thing to do, as I’ve just finished the April A to Z Blogging Challenge and can use a little oomph. So let’s see how this goes.

For Today: May 4, 2016

Looking out my window …
It sure looks a lot warmer than it actually is, here in Southeast Wisconsin. That means the sun is shining. The sky is bright blue, decorated with a few puffy clouds in varying shades of white and grey. But it’s only 50 (F) degrees.

I am thinking …
I really should have run a few miles today, although I logged plenty on my Fitbit, just running errands and running around a bit. Plus, it's getting dark out. (I know. Excuses! Excuses!)

I am thankful …
This afternoon, I ducked out and had a much-needed hair appointment. I’m thankful to be rocking the ‘do, at least till I shampoo it and ruin the professional styling. I can never make it look the way they do!

One of my favorite things …
I have lots of favorite things. Does orange sherbet count? I fell to temptation and strolled down the ice cream aisle at the grocery story on the way home. Hey, don’t judge! At least I snatched up sherbet, instead of a gooier choice!

I am wearing …
All day, I have been in a half-zip stretchy running shirt and a pair of blue jeans that now sport more than a few mud stains. At least, we’re gonna call it mud. I was tromping around in the pasture today, applying antiseptic to an older Thoroughbred’s wounded knee.

I am creating …
Sssh! Don’t spoil the surprise: Another poetry book is in the works. It should hit the racks (and online) within the month, I hope. Watch for my Amazon author link at the bottom of this post. So far, I have five books, which are offered by Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Books a Million, Tower Books, and a bunch of other booksellers.

I am reading …
Finally, I dove into A Prayer for Owen Meany, by John Irving. My sister loaned it to me eons ago, but I just cracked the cover open over the weekend. I’m a few chapters into this one now.

I am watching …
Tomorrow I’ll be watching The Blacklist and wondering if Red or someone else may have staged Liz’ death. Could she really be gone?

I am listening to …
At this very minute, I am listening to “It Is Well," by Kristene DiMarco / Bethel Music. I first heard this song a couple of weeks ago at a wonderful small group Bible study I attend. What a song.

I am hoping …
Honestly, I hope Americans can get it together during one of the harshest and craziest Presidential election seasons I’ve ever seen in my lifetime. I wonder what the rest of the world is thinking, as they watch all the commotion, confusion, and conflict. There’s even a campaign sign in the front window of my home for a candidate I do not support. Yes, this election is that divisive. Bring on the second week of November, baby, when this is all over.

I am learning …
Every day. Where do I start?

In my kitchen …
I really need to start making dinner. I’ve been away for a couple of days, I am playing catch-up a bit. Can't we just skip right to the orange sherbet?

In the school room …
I don’t have anyone in the school room these days. I have two twenty-somethings, who are out of school now and working full-time.

In my garden …
Mother’s Day arrives this weekend, along with the traditional annual flower planting time for our geographical region. That’s usually the moment when we are most likely to be free from danger of frost. Guess what I’ll be doing next week, when I can carve out some spare time!

Board room …
Till this moment, I guess I had not recently checked to see how many Pinterest boards I currently have. Yikes. That’s almost embarrassing! I have 77 boards on various topics. Some of them correspond to several of my news and feature columns online. Others match up with personal interests I enjoy. I know, there ought to be a law....

Here’s an image I really like from my Fine Art Favorites board. I also used this painting in a blog prompt post on my Simple Snickers site, where I try to pair fine art with keywords for writers. I love the expression on the lion, who sort of looks like he'd rather take a nap than pounce.

A Lion and a Lionesse, by Geza Vastagh, c1900.
Post Script …

Shared Quote …

This quote appeared in a recent post on my devotional/Bible blog site, Heart of a Ready Writer. I love this Scripture verse, and I think it fit nicely with the photo background I found for it.

“The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.” (Deuteronomy 33:27a, NIV)

A moment from my day …
My two-year-old Lab mix rescue pup stayed at my older daughter’s place last night. She was very excited when I picked her up. (It doesn’t take much to make her very excited, but it’s still nice to be missed.)

Closing Notes:
This was an enjoyable exercise. I look forward to visiting other participating blog sites for The Simple Woman’s Daybook, and I welcome those writers to stop in often as well.
