Stunning Styles for Sporting Scarves

Stunning Styles for Sporting Scarves

 .
 .
Are you a scarf superstar?

Do you wrap yourself in woolen warmth or drape cozy Pashmina shawls around your shoulders? Do you love kerchiefs or casual bandannas? Maybe you prefer mufflers, head wraps, turbans or neckerchiefs.

Personally, I tend to be partial to the long wrap scarves, rather than the circular or square ones. And I’m not really much of a shawl fan, although these can be nice over light and breezy summer sundresses on a chilly night. Not lately!

Still, scarves are surely stylish.

Lately, I’ve been picking up a bit of knitting, working on a few pretty winter scarves in a variety of nubby textured yarns for the cold-weather months. Hey, it keeps me busy during my favorite television shows, so I’m not as tempted to munch!

Recently, a particularly posh relative sent me a video link to this fun little film. Check it out. Here’s “25 Ways to Wear a Scarf in 4.5 Minutes,” from Wendy’s Look Book.
 .
 .

OK, a couple of these scarf tricks look like duplicates to me, but who’s counting? It’s still fun to watch and perhaps pick up a few new ideas for neckwear.

How many of these scarf styles have you already tried? Which ones would you like most to learn?
 .
 .

A few months ago, touring the Holy Land with friends, I was amazed at the popularity of Pashmina styles, which had all but vanished in the United States in the past couple of years. A few of the street vendors even offered creative tips for draping and wearing their wares.

Guess what? I bought a bundle of multi-colored wraps and scarves to give as gifts and to practice my own specific styles of “scarfdom.” Who says style can’t be personalized with a few fun accessories?

Just for fun, here are a few scarf stylings I found particularly appealing. See what you think!

Wrap it up … in style … with a special scarf.

Pounding Porky Pig: Who’s the Pig Now?

Pounding Porky Pig: Who's the Pig Now?

Porky Pig has taken an powder ... so to speak.

Two off-duty Six Flags Great America employees were ousted on July 14th from the Gurnee, Illinois, theme park after punching a female co-worker in a Porky Pig costume. The two young men, both from nearby Waukegan, Illinois, pounded the posing Porky Pig several times in the head – immediately after posing for photographs with the popular Warner Brothers/Looney Tunes  cartoon character.

Six Flags theme park security staffers stopped the melee and kept the two young adult males until local police showed up to arrest them on battery charges.

Porky Pig, portrayed by a 24-year-old Six Flags Great America employee, sustained several bruises, as well as a headache and stiff neck, from the incident. She was treated at a Six Flags Great America first aid office and released.

Oink! Oink! Who’s the Pig Now?

Theme park characters don hot and heavy costumes to entertain youngsters throughout warm-weather seasons at popular tourist attractions, such as Six Flags Great America and others. For example, at the Northern Illinois theme park, Porky Pig's colleagues include Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Foghorn Leghorn, Pepe LePew, The Road Runner, Scooby Doo, Sylvester the Cat, Taz The Tazmanian Devil, Tweety Bird, Wile E. Coyote, Yosemite Sam and many others.

Surely, these employees need not be subject to assault.

How would you weigh in on the treatment Porky Pig received at Northern Illinois’ Six Flags Great America?

F is for . . . Fashion

‘F’ is for . . . Fashion

"Life is really simple,
but we insist on making it complicated."
Confucius
Ancient Chinese Philosopher
(551 BC – 479 BC)

What’s so complicated about fashion? Not much, unless you happen to have teenagers in the house.

Not long ago, one of my daughters stayed home from school for a sick day. Around mid-morning, she suggested we weed through my own closet. In a weak moment, I agreed.

Together, we began sorting through jackets and jeans, shirts and skirts, blazers and belts and more.

“Mom, you really need to donate some of these dresses to the church drama department,” my teen daughter exclaimed. “They look like they belonged in biblical times.”

Yikes!

Perhaps this is an appropriate moment for confessing that I have actually worn those fancy frocks to company Christmas parties, holiday brunches and even weddings.

What’s the worst fashion faux-pas you have ever experienced? Are you willing to share your story in a comment here . . . or post your own blog, and leave a link here in a comment?
