Questions By: Another Suburban Mom
The questions are in bold, and my answers are in italics.
1. What are you thankful for this year?
This year, I am especially thankful for the health and safety of family and friends. In a very trying economy, I am also particularly thankful for God's provision of shelter and sustenance.
"Let [us] give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and His wonderful deeds for men, for He satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things."
(Psalm 107:8-9)
2. Since some of our participants are not in the US, what do you think about Thanksgiving?
I am in the U.S., and I am thankful to live in a country that still recognizes the need for a day of gratitude (at least, officially).
"When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the LORD your God for the good land He has given you. Be careful that you do not forget the LORD your God, failing to observe His commands, His laws and His decrees that I am giving you this day."
(Deuteronomy 8:10-11)
3. What is your favorite part of the holiday/ your least favorite.
My favorite part of Thanksgiving Day is the family gathering for a delicious meal and recounting shared memories.
Then, during the long holiday weekend, I like to put up the Christmas tree and prepare our family Christmas cards for mailing.
The entire Thanksgiving weekend always seems to be a time of recalling God's blessings throughout the previous year, while looking forward to the Christmas season as well.
"Let us come before Him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song."
(Psalm 95:2)
4. Mashed Potatoes or Sweet Potatoes?
Both?
5. Do you own eating pants? Describe.
I'd rather eat turkey, thanks. (Please pass the gravy and cranberry sauce.)
6. What is your favorite thing to do with the Thanksgiving leftovers?
Eat them.
"From the fruit of their mouths people's stomachs are filled; with the harvest of their lips they are satisfied."
(Proverbs 18:20)
7. Who are you most looking forward to seeing? Least?
Looking forward to the whole crew.
"Better a dry crust with peace and quiet than a house full of feasting, with strife."
(Proverbs 17:1)
8. Do you go shopping on the day after Thanksgiving?
One year, I did make the mistake of visiting a local shopping mall on the day after Thanksgiving. I went with a friend at about 6 am. Having found the stores teeming with stressed and impatient crowds and the atmosphere far less than festive, I resolved never to try shopping on "Black Friday" again.
"When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd."
(Matthew 9:36)
