The world may look like a lovely winter wonderland indeed,
if fresh-fallen snow adorns streets and sidewalks. A white Christmas seems to
be the stuff of childhood memories, with snowball fights, sleigh rides, and
snowman construction drawing everyone outdoors.
Here’s a Christmas song standard, recorded by Macy Gray.
At least 150 recording artists (from Bing Crosby to Billy
Idol, from Ella Fitzgerald to Elvis Presley, and from Johnny Mathis to The
Jonas Brothers) have produced covers of the 1934 hit, with words by Richard B.
Smith and a tune by Felix Barnard.
OK, “Walking in a Winter Wonderland” is not technically
about Christmas, but the tune has taken its place on holiday playlists for 80
years.

Crunch! Crunch! What’s that sound? It’s Christmas
celebrants, walking out there in that winter wonderland. (Now, if we’d only see
some snow)
