Clean freaks may have all sorts of reasons for keeping
things neat and tidy. Some simply cannot stand clutter. Others may be concerned
about germs. (See Bacteriophobia:
Fearsome phobias from A to Z for more on this.) Those issues aren’t really
phobias. Koniophobia (also known as coniophobia) is something else.
Koniophobia is the
fear of dust.
Anyone with this phobia is likely top dread dust. The idea
of dust mites being present gives them pause and perhaps panic. Dust bunnies
may be koniophobics’ worst nightmares. These folks frequently clean their homes and workspaces again and again and again, aiming to prevent the buildup of the slightest smidgen of dust.
I’m pretty sure I don’t possess this sort of fear (Don’t
repeat that!), although a cobwebophobia would be a different story altogether.
I simply cannot let the dust settle, if even the remotest possibility exists
that a spider may be lurking nearby.
