The Star points the way to Christmas

STAR - for the 2021 Holiday Photography Challenge (See sidebar for full list.).

One of my most treasured Christmas tree ornaments is intentionally reminiscent of the Star of Bethlehem design found in the grotto of The Church of the Nativity, located in Bethlehem (in the West Bank, Palestine).

Many believe this star emblem marks the spot where Jesus Christ was born. I had a remarkable opportunity to visit this spot personally about 10 years ago. (See photo.)

Although it looks nothing like a rustic cave or stable (as in our nativity sets/creches), where the Holy Infant was born, while animals munched and slept nearby, I still found it quite meaningful to pause in such a wondrous place.

Every time I place the Star of Bethlehem ornament on our Christmas tree (usually during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend), I recall that amazing trip. And I ponder the miracle of God’s Son stepping down from Heaven and taking on human flesh and being born in such humble circumstances.

When the Light of the World arrived, those who sought Him were guided by a special star to the place where He was. And that led us all to Christmas.
